The Rowfontine Gallary

Works and Days

I have been working in various media for thirty years. My work includes writing, performance, music and art. As an artist my work is divided into two schools. I put most store in my drawing most of which are miniatures. Many are part of an ongoing graphic novel called Justin Sane. However since 2003 I have also become a digital painter. This has come about largely by default as I find the process of digital painting a highly poetics process, something akin to a mystic union between artist, the work in progress and the machine. Since that first year I have produced several hundred families of digital paintings. There are at least a thousand individual images some of which are represented here. Each family is descended from its predecessor and the origin of the first pieces was a photograph of two horses in a field which as digitally subsumed in June 2002. What does my art mean? That's for the appraiser to figure out for themselves. I hope that my pictures are fun and sometimes provocative. They have certainly proved popular. This year (2011) is the first time they have gone public.

(Are any of these for sale Charles? I see you say many form part of the illustrations for a book - but just wondered if any are stand-alone images which are for sale?)

I'm totally hooked on these Charles. They are truly amazing. The more you look at each picture, the more you can see. It's like a never-ending staircase or an artistic Pandora's Box. They are stunning. I've pinned one or two onto Pinterest as I have a feeling lots of people will feel the same way as me, they are really gorgeous works.

Your ability as an illustrator is outstanding. You are very dedicated to the art that you create. It is not often that you come across an artist that can make drawings of this quality as well as digital "paintings".
