Working With Clay
I found clay to be such a fantasic tool because it is so tactile. With the self drying clay you don't have to worry about kilns. If you make a mistake you can squash it back up and restart. Its such a sense of achievement when you create your first piece. They make great gifts for friends and family. Its a way to express yourself and a way to feel good inside, producing artwork. Especially working with clay, because you are kneading it and pounding it, it gets stress out of your body. I'm going to start working with traditional methods of making clay bowls and vases. This involves creating a flat base and then rolling out strips of clay and circling them, building them up to whatever height you wish and then smoothing it out, leaving it to dry and then painting it whatever colour you wish. I have worked in other mediums such a mosaic, sticking things such as buttons onto plant pots, grouting them and filling in with paint and then varnishing them, but I found it to be cheating in a way, creating something from nothing is the way forward for me. When you first start your aren't an artist as such, you are just doing it as a bit of fun until someone recognises it as art. (Try it, you might be surprised!)

I like the idea that you have to make coil pots. The pieces in these pictures are very solid.
