Black lines, dramatic colour and grotesque subject matter
My work is inspired by early 20th century poster art and the bold style of the graphic novel. My drawings have an 'etched' look. I try to transform ugliness, disguising it with colour, humour and to use dramatic lines and dazzling perspectives. I approach my pieces as a form of collage, slotting my drawings together to create depth.

The image is taken from Madonna's Che Guevara album where she dressed in combat uniform. The idea behind this piece is that the artist is suffering from a multi-personality disorder, hence the wallpaper of different Madonna 'looks' she has taken on throughout her career. -
Powdergirl

The image is based on Kate Moss, inspired by an article about 1960s-style 'Powder Room Girls'. The idea behind this piece is that the Powder Girls are working their magic like Samantha in Bewitched with their lipstick legs, make-up brush hands and nailfile broomsticks. -

Lampshade Voodoo

This piece brings the mundane lampshade and turns it into something exotic. I love to arrange my subjects neatly and pose them symmetrically. It gives an almost comical effect. -
Lifting Strawberries

A lot of people have a fear of moths. I think here this cheeky little Buddhist god seems to be offering his strawberry as an offering to these amazingly beautiful flying moths as though they were hawks being trained. -
Dead Birdy

How beautifully peaceful does this dead bird look set against this mountainside background. The ladybirds either side give it an almost storybook feel. I have added the balloon for comical effect, to make it more lighthearted. -
Windmill Socks

Once again I am attempting to transform ugliness into beauty. The flies have a dramatic effect on the windmill as it peacfully dries its owners' 'Socks'. -
Lunch Munch

A comical piece. I have created a cartoon crocodile rather evily putting his arms around his lunch, the lamb. I like the sinister look of the picture. The look of the lamb is so vulnerable that you cannot help feel slightly sad seeing the picture. We glorify violence in cartoons. But my apes in the background remind us that it is all part of nature. -
Icecream

A man looks out at the sea and contemplates icecream. It is written in the sky. How could you possibly have a pier without icecream?

The strength of your art is in your talent for composing imagery that is very contemporary. Your series of "pink and black" drawings is extremely good. The inclusion of insects and birds ,humans and architecture against the backdrop of landscapes is original. The ink on paper studies show off your potential as a draftsperson ."Madonna" and "Powder Girl" are well finished caricatures.
