About this Artist

Andrew Hood is one of the six award winners from Outside In 2007.  He talks here about his life and work.

I've always been creative.  I left school with a couple of 'O' levels in design and ceramics and then went onto Horsham School of Art in the 80's.  I loved my time at Horsham but completley squandered it; I did plenty of art work just not in college and never took it in.  I loved the friendships, the parties, the non-conformity and having some nice kips through tedious lessons!  In many ways I started to fall apart in my head then but you wouldn't know because everyone was doing their own late teen angst/free-living stuff and thing.

I left art achool and did the whole nine to five in various jobs for over ten years, got married, had a lovely child, divorced.  Modern living eh, it takes your soul away.  I spent another ten years or so having some full on mental health problems.  On the bright side, I found my creative self again and this time I'm going to see where it goes.  There is a time when things are right in life and mine is now.

I recently gained a BTEC national certificate in photography and hope to go on to do a fine art photography degree.

The layers of light and colour in these photographs give a new edge to the topics and themes that you make pictures about.
