Joan is a long-standing member of Artists First in Bristol. She has exhibited widely over many years (to name a few of the exhibitions Joan has been involved in: This River Winding at the Bristol Old Vic, King Street exhibition, Strength to Strength as part of Year of the Artist at Spike Island, Tate Liverpool Residency and Exhibition, Thelma Hulbert Gallery in Honiton, Holton Lee in Poole, Outside In 2010, Boundless and Bankside). Joan is an artist that works quickly and produces a lot of work. Over the years, Joan has sold a lot of her paintings.
