Steve Lewis is 56 and works as a cleaner. Here he explains how he came to art and its importance in his life.
I realise there are many artists about who are not professional, who never get a viewing yet continue to create their art. This is a real shame because all art is worth viewing. It matters not a bit how talented the artist is (who makes the judgement anyway?), art is a creative medium part of being human. This is a primal urge to translate the seen or imaginary world into form, to bring into being the imagination. Images are a story, a translation, a depiction of experience and an insight into human consciousness, (which in particular I find fascinating). I have always been keen on art as a hobby and therapy; I have dabbled more as I've got older. I used to work mainly in pen and ink, water colour, felt tips and crayons', I've moved more into acrylics these days.
